Privacy policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026.
This policy explains how Quid handles information when you use the browser extension or this website.
Video analysis
Quid processes video images on your device to recognize supported public figures and display their financial disclosures. Analysis runs in the active, visible browser tab. Where a video cannot be read directly, the extension captures the visible tab and crops the image to the video. That initial capture may include other content visible on the page.
Screenshots, video frames and face measurements are processed locally and held temporarily in memory. The extension does not save them to persistent storage or send them to Quid, a recognition server or an analytics service. It may read page titles and headings to understand the page context, but these are not included in financial-data download requests or Recent matches.
The disclosure cards are added to the page you are viewing. That website can therefore observe the names and information displayed in a card. Local processing does not make the visible card private from the website.
Information stored on your device
The extension saves your preferences and downloaded financial data in local browser extension storage. These preferences include whether analysis and financial updates are enabled, together with your matching settings. They are not stored using the browser's extension sync storage.
Recent matches keeps up to ten recognized politicians on your device so you can reopen their profiles. It stores their public identity, name, party and office label. It does not store the page address, video title, images, viewing timestamps or face measurements. Sightings in private browsing are excluded. The list remains until you clear it, an entry is replaced by another recent match, or you uninstall the extension.
Temporary recognition and card-tracking information stays in memory during use. Preferences and downloaded financial data remain locally available until changed or removed through the browser. Uninstalling removes the extension's local storage through the browser's normal extension lifecycle.
Connections to other services
Financial updates are enabled by default. When enabled, Quid checks for updates at most daily and downloads public, verified financial data. These requests use a fixed address and the same public dataset for every viewer. They do not include the video or page address, recognized politician, screenshots or face measurements. The requests omit credentials and referrers. You can turn updates off in the popup; data already downloaded remains available.
Cloudflare hosts the Quid website and financial-data files. As with other website hosts, it receives ordinary connection information, including your IP address, when your browser requests those files. Cloudflare's own privacy practices apply to its handling of that information.
Quid does not contain advertising or analytics integrations, sell analyzed video information, or share it for advertising. Recognition models and public reference images are included in the extension; using them does not contact an external recognition or image service.
Website privacy
The website displays public financial disclosures and politician profiles. It does not perform face recognition or require an account. Directory search and filters run in your browser; your search text is not sent to a search service. The website does not use advertising or analytics integrations.
The hosting provider receives normal website requests and connection information. A visit to a politician profile includes that profile's address in the request. The website and the extension's generic financial downloads therefore have different privacy implications: visiting a profile reveals which page you opened to the host, while an extension update request does not identify a recognized politician.
Your controls
You can disable video analysis or financial updates in the extension popup. Your browser's site-access settings let you restrict which websites the extension can access. Minimize and close controls hide or dismiss a card; they do not turn off analysis.
Use Clear history in the popup to remove Recent matches. New sightings outside private browsing can add entries again. You can uninstall the extension to remove its locally stored information through the browser.
